2009 Jennifer Evenhus Festival Art Print

The 2009 Art Print is titled "Early Spring Orchard" - a portrait of a young apple orghard in early spring, nestled against the foothills of East Wenatchee, and measures 19 1/2"  x 21".  Jennifer Evenhus is a nationally recognized, award winning artist from East Wenatchee. She graduated from Eastmont High School in 1970. Jennifer's bold use of color is what first attracts the eye. Her subject is often paint itself, fascinated with the painterly effects one can achieve with pastels, or the wonderful transparency of oils. Whether with oils or pastels, Jennifer enjoys the process of painting as much as completing the work. Always sorry to see the journey end, Jen describes the process as a journey through unknown territory.

Even though she has a good idea of the outcome she wants, she is careful not to become locked into an idea, staying open to all those little accidents that happen along the way, careful not to cover them up. These accidents she describes as unforeseen treasures that give a painting character, depth, and movement. Jennifer's work is often very abstract, using earthscapes as a starting point, she paints out most of the detail, leaving just enough for the viewer to become lost in a new world. She alludes her abstract work to the Japanese 'Haiku,' a short poem of 17 syllables, an art form her grandmother, Charlotte Pilgrim, taught her.

Jennifer and her husband, Stan, have been married for 38 years and have a son, Jason and a daughter, Tessa, and 3 grandchildren. She has been at the First United Methodist Church for the past 11 years as their Communications Director.
